Magpie is a departure from Pidgin – at this new restaurant diners choose plates straight from a trolley. It’s a British interpretation of traditional dim sum restaurants. There’s a trolley of cocktails to choose from, alongside small plates of mackerel crudo with fennel pollen, and hot dishes such as grilled celeriac with a watermelon barbecue sauce.

The new site in Brick Lane, Shoreditch, is set to open late this month. Occupying a 45-cover site on Brick Lane, Suvlaki’s interiors have been designed by Afroditi Krassa. The restaurant scene in Clapham is going from strength to strength. Head to this new all-day neighbourhood restaurant for food from Chef Jake Boyce, formerly of Jason Atherton’s Social Wine and Tapas. Modern European dishes have flavours from the Indian Ocean: think baby octopus with curry-leaf paste and charred green mango.
