Five great Afternoon Tea spots across the UK
Betty’s in York
Established almost a century ago, Betty’s was founded by Swiss baker and confectioner Frederick Belmont, and now has six luxurious Café Tea Rooms in Yorkshire. The York tea room, overlooking photogenic St Helen’s Square, is just a short stroll from the Yorkshire Museum and York Theatre Royal, and offers everything from tantalising fresh scones to traditional sandwiches and miniature cakes.
Claridges, central London
A luxury Mayfair hotel, Claridges has been one of the most sought-after London venues for Afternoon Tea for over 150 years. Here, in the midst of a magnificent foyer designed by Thierry Despont in the 1930’s Art Deco style, you won’t be able to resist the scrumptious sweet pastries, finger sandwiches, and freshly baked scones and Cornish Clotted creams. Plus, you can choose from 24 of the finest teas in the world, and for a supplement you can also treat yourself to Champagne Afternoon Tea with a glass of Laurent Perrier.
The Edgbaston Hotel, Birmingham
This elegant art-deco-style hotel dates back to the early Victorian era and features a beautiful cocktail lounge where Afternoon Tea is served daily. In the attractive neighbourhood of Edgbaston, and less than a mile from the Birmingham University Botanical Gardens, the hotel offers carefully selected Organic Loose Leaf Jing Tea with tasty artisan sandwiches, scones and other irresistible sweet treats.
The Pettigrew, Cardiff
Adjacent to the entrance of the beautiful landscaped gardens of Bute Park, the Pettigrew Tea Rooms offers some of the best Afternoon Tea in Wales. Minutes from the National Theatre Wales and the ruins of Cardiff Castle, the venue provides everything from loose leaf tea to tasty scones and sandwiches, followed by a choice of freshly baked treats from the famous Pettigrew cake cabinet. Every cake is baked on site, and guests can book a table in the spacious Gallery or outdoors (weather permitting) where they can enjoy fine views of the park.
